**Removing Disney Art**

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 1, 2007, 12:14 PM
Greetings, everyone.

On a somewhat sad note, sometime within the next 24 hours I will be removing all of my Disney artwork. There has always been a little controversy around most of it, because of the fact that the drawings were based off of screenshots from their respective movies. I thank those who approached me about these issues with respect. For me, it was about a one year period in my life in which these drawings were created. They were done so as a fun way to pass the time, and really helped my observational skills in tremendous ways.

The final straw was when one of my drawings were removed from the DA staff, earlier in the week. I was pretty upset when I saw that note today. In the note, I was accused of plagiarizing, and "illegal behavior," which was highly offensive to me. I began writing an angry letter. But, it is true, with the drawing in question, there was a fine line between original art, and something someone else created. So I didn't send the letter. Actually, I think I should be flattered that it was good enough to be considered official artwork.

But in any case, I don't want to feel this low again, I don't want to start any arguments, and I don't want to hate this place. It's done so much for me. In a sense, I am sort of "giving up," but it'll allow me to focus on more original fanart (I know, it sounds like an oxymoron).

I actually haven't done one of these types of drawings in years, and really hadn't planned on it ever again. So I hope people can understand, and I won't be offended if people take me off their deviantwatch list. I just want to move an without causing any more trouble.

Maybe I'll create an original Disney-themed fanart to make up for this. :)

Seriously. I just might. I can see where the issue is, and I'm probably taking it too personally, but it really is a blind accusation.

You should do a series of your Disney characters enraged at the fact that they have been SO FALSELY accused of plagerism. Have the Beast and Mufasa lead this evil Disney army to vindication.

I'd just like to say I love the video: [link] You certainly have a flair for direction and a good eye for a story! The 3d art copying the WW game is also an exceptional rendition :) I loved every second, it really made me laugh! A clever little vid.

If it was available on DA, I would fav it mnay times over! :D

Hey, it's cool.
Ultimately, a lot of have our DA accounts here to post what we enjoy doing, not necessairily for attention or Internet Fame.

Thank you for taking my suggestion well. I really don't have a huge problem with people working from pre-existing reference as long as it's properly credited and they're not trying to claim that 'OMG LOOK WHAT I DID ALL BY MYSELF!!' (which is TOTALLY not what you have done, but it's something I've seen a lot of on DA).

Good luck with newer stuff!

I appreciate your suggestion, and I understand the lack of talent required for it. I've explained it before in the "Belle and Beast" comments portion, but I'll explain it here too, abridged. It started out as an update to a drawing of Simba and Scar I did when I was 10 or 11 (the original is viewable in my Scraps, the update is in my Deviation folder). So after I redid the image in Photoshop, it just kind of snowballed. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon. I never claimed that any of the images were my original creations, and it was simply a phase. I haven't done one in over a year (and before that, I hadn't done one for... quite some time), and I never, ever plan on doing another one. If I ever draw Disney characters again, they WILL be in original poses and settings. So, thank you for your concern, and for handling it in a polite manner.

You have an interesting array of stuff here, nice.

However, I have to wonder why you make your Disney pictures such slavish copies of the original? Honestly, the screengrabs exist, why copy what already exists? To me, that doesn't require a lot of talent, just a good eye.
Why not draw Disney characters in different settings or doing something NOT straight out of the movies? Making something new from scratch is a lot more challenging and satisfying than just copying.
Just a suggestion. ^^
